Mobile Police Investigate Hit-and-Run Following Weekend Block Party

On Sunday, June 5, 2023, the Mobile Police Department launched an investigation into a hit-and-run incident that occurred following a weekend block party in the downtown area near the intersection of Dauphin Street and Canal Street.

Around 3:00 AM, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle near the block party. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, identified as a 25-year-old male, lying on the ground with severe injuries.

Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, fled the scene immediately after the collision. Paramedics transported the victim to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators combed the area for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses, but the identity of the suspect and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown.

Police have released limited information about the victim or the suspect vehicle, citing the ongoing investigation. However, they urge the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the responsible party.

"We are appealing to the community for their help in solving this hit-and-run," said Mobile Police Sergeant John Smith. "Any information, no matter how small, can be crucial in bringing the perpetrator to justice."

The Mobile Police Department has established a dedicated tip line for the investigation. Members of the public who have any information about the incident or the suspect vehicle are asked to call 251-208-7211.

The hit-and-run incident has sent shockwaves through the downtown community, which has become a popular destination for weekend block parties and other social gatherings.

"It's a tragedy that someone could be so reckless and leave a person for dead," said local resident Susan Jones. "I hope the police find the person responsible and hold them accountable."

The Mobile Police Department's investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and utilizing other investigative techniques to identify the suspect vehicle and its driver.

The department emphasizes the importance of responsible driving and encourages the public to report any instances of reckless or impaired driving to law enforcement.

"Hit-and-runs are a serious crime that can have devastating consequences," said Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine. "We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice."

The victim's family and friends have expressed their gratitude for the public's support and have asked for privacy during this difficult time. They are hopeful that the police will be able to apprehend the suspect and bring them to justice.

As the investigation continues, the Mobile Police Department urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information related to the hit-and-run incident.
