Fire Engulfs Haysville Mobile Home, Leaving Two Injured, One Critically

On the fateful evening of May 29, 2024, a devastating fire tore through a mobile home in Haysville, leaving two individuals with severe injuries. One of the victims, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital for emergency medical attention.

The second victim, also unnamed at this time, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency medical services. The injured individual declined further medical treatment at a hospital.

The blaze erupted at a mobile home located on East Grand Avenue in Haysville at approximately 8:30 p.m. Firefighters from multiple agencies, including Haysville, Derby, and Wichita, responded swiftly to the scene and battled the inferno relentlessly.

Upon their arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames engulfing the mobile home. They immediately initiated firefighting operations and searched the structure for trapped occupants. The swift and coordinated efforts of the emergency responders resulted in the successful rescue of both victims.

The Haysville Fire Department reported that the fire was extinguished within approximately 30 minutes of their arrival on the scene. However, the mobile home sustained extensive damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Haysville Fire Department and the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated in the kitchen area of the mobile home, but the exact circumstances surrounding the ignition remain undetermined.

The American Red Cross has been notified of the incident and is providing assistance to the displaced victims. The organization is coordinating temporary shelter, food, clothing, and other essential needs for the individuals affected by the fire.

The Haysville community has come together to offer support and assistance to the victims. Local businesses and organizations have organized fundraisers and donation drives to aid the individuals in their recovery and rebuilding process.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of fire safety and prevention measures. Residents are urged to inspect their smoke detectors regularly, develop and practice escape plans, and take precautions to prevent fires from occurring in their homes.

The Haysville Fire Department offers the following tips to help prevent residential fires:

  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Keep flammable materials away from heat sources.
  • Inspect electrical cords and appliances for damage.
  • Ensure that smoke detectors are properly installed and functioning.
  • Practice fire escape plans with all household members.

The community of Haysville remains united in support of the victims and their families during this challenging time. The ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to provide further insights and help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
